PLEASE NOTE: As of 2018, the California Public Anthropology’s International Competition has been discontinued. The winners of the International Competition from 2008-2016 are listed below. Though all these competition winners were encouraged to submit full-fledged manuscripts for publication in the California Public Anthropology Series, some have not. For the first two years of the competition, students were judged separately from faculty. (After 2011, they were judged collectively.) The student winners proved more successful in moving their proposals to publication. Claudia Seymour, who won the student award in 2008, has had her book, The Myth of International Protection: War and Survival in Congo, published in 2019. Ruben Andersson, who won the student award in 2010, had his book, Illegality, Inc.: Clandestine Migration and the Business of Bordering Europe, published in 2014.
