Program in Anthropology A unique feature of the program is that students must concurrently meet the requirements for a master's degree in anthropology as well as those of the health services administration curriculum. This dual orientation provides graduates with the breadth and depth needed to administer health care organizations in today's dynamic environment. The program prepares students for health administration, policy, and planning positions in public and private health care organizations such as hospitals, clinics, managed care organizations, insurance companies, quality improvement organizations, long-term care facilities, mental-health facilities, consulting firms, public health departments, and other government agencies. The American West Center is a research unit at the University of Utah, affliated with the College of Social and Behavioral Science. For more than thirty years it has actively worked to provide a greater understanding of the history, development, and environment of the American West. The American West Center also woeks with tribes to develop historical and ethnographical documentation to support legal claims. It has assisted fifteen tribes with developing tribal archives relevant to their land, water, and culture. Established in 1960, the Center has administered degree programs at all levels (B.A., M.A., and Ph.D.) and offered, both to students and to the larger community, a variety of opportunities for the advancement of understanding of the Middle East. The mission of the Center is to provide students with an opportunity to pursue interdisciplinary programs of study aimed at the acquisition of proficiency in a major language or languages of the Middle East and North Africa and the attainment of a well-informed understanding of the area’s history, cultures, religions, literatures, politics and contemporary dynamics. The Center also seeks to promote understanding of this complex area within the larger community through workshops for teachers in public education (K-12), public lectures and other community-oriented programs. Eccles Institute of Human Genetics Dedicated in 1990, the George and Dolores Eccles Institute
of Human Genetics is the focal point for genetic research at the
University of Utah. The Institute houses several programs, including:
Genetic Science Learning Center -- an outreach education program
for high school and undergraduate students and teachers; Department
of Human Genetics ; Human Molecular Biology and Genetics Program
-- an interdepartmental effort to strengthen the interface between
clinical application and basic genetic research; and the .
