Nanette Barkey

Joint research with NGOs in Angola into the strategies individuals and communities are using to rebuild their lives after the civil war with the goal of improving the work of those NGOs. Emergency relief efforts to assist people fleeing severe floods in southern Mozambique (2000), using linguistic and anthropological skills. Research with two community collboratives into people living without health insurance in southern California.

Thomas Charlton

Collaboration with the State Historical Society and the Johnson County Historical Society over 30 years in carrying out historical and archaeological research, establishing and maintaining displays of the findings, and carrying out public programs on the archaeology of the State Historic Site of Plum Grove in Iowa City, the retirement home of the first Territorial Governor of Iowa, Robert Lucas. In Mexico collaboration with a citizen's committee in Otumba, Edo. de México, working to preserve historical structures in the area, in particular Los Arcos de Zempoala built in the 16th century to bring water to Otumba.
