The Center provides a range of support for Tulane-affiliated archaeological research. Continuing programs include a grants-in-aid program for meritorious student and faculty projects; sponsorship of scholarly conferences and symposia; curation of archaeological site collections from North America and teaching collections from other areas; and a Lectures in Archaeology series, which brings outstanding scholars to Tulane to present public lectures on topics of broad interest. The Center promotes public understanding of the value and importance of archaeology as a discipline. Staff members actively participate in public outreach projects, such as the annual Louisiana Archaeology Week and the celebration in honor of the 1682 de la Salle expedition down the Mississippi River.

Stone Center for Latin American Studies

The Center's program embraces linguistic fluency, fieldwork, and direct engagement in Latin America and the Caribbean as well as encouraging comparative studies that provide a more profound understanding of differences among socio-cultural systems developed within Latin America. The Latin American Resource Center, housed in Center, provides specialized services to schools and colleges across the nation.  Its goal is to promote the study of all subject matter relating to Latin America at both the K-12 and university levels. Its Latin American Immersion Project at, for example, allows public school children to take two courses a month on a selected Latin American country, with the Center providing the teacher and resources.
