on Anthropologically Connected
Certificate in Historic Preservation While offered within the College of Architecture, the certifcate provides students in a graduate degree program, such as anthropology, the opportunity to develop a body of knowledge in historic preservation to support their career goals. The certificate is based on the premise that historic preservation is a cross-disciplinary field, in which practitioners must have mutual respect for others, while building appropriate awareness, understanding, and abilities within a chosen area of expertise. Nautical
Archaeology Program The program focuses on the history of wooden ship construction; seafaring through the ages; maritime commerce, cargoes, and ports; and the techniques used to record, analyse and conserve the remains of these activities. The Institute for Pacific Asia builds on Texas A&M University's strengths in science, technology, economic and social development to engage faculty and students in the exchange of knowledge with the most dynamic growth region of the 21st Century - Asia Pacific. IPA brings together academics and professionals to address key issues of mutual interest to the United States and Asia Pacific including Public Health and Human Safety, Social and Human Capital Development, Community Development, and Non-profit Sector Development. In the Chinese-US Higher Education Policy-makers' Intellectual Property Rights and Technology Transfer Project, Chinese and U.S. Universities partner to study models for the management of intellectual property and technology transfer. International Center's World Room The objective of The Southwestern Bell World Room is to expand the capacity of the International Center to provide rich educational experiences for K-12 students, teachers, principals, and other educational leaders and to meet the needs of Texas teachers to understand and teach about international issues, geography, history, economics, and world diversity. The center serves as a vital link between the Brazos Valley community and Texas A&M University. The World Room also offers The World Scholar Challenge Project for students in grades 6-12. Institute of Nautrical Archaeology The Institute seeks to locate, identify, excavate, conserve, analyze, and publish archaeologically important shipwrecks or submerged sites that best expand knowledge of past civilizations. Its Archaeological Preservation Research Laboratory contributes new and alternative methods for the conservation of organic material culture. Working in close association with the Conservation Research Laboratory and Dow Corning Corporation, Midland, Michigan, the Institute has sought to conserve artifacts from numerous archaeological sites. One example involves a project conducted in conjunction with the Texas Historical Commission, CRL and APRL conservators to conserve artifacts from the La Salle's ship, La Belle. Center for the Study of the First Americans The Center explores questions surrounding the peopling of the Americas. The Center pursues research, education, and public outreach. Research: The Center develops new knowledge regarding PaleoAmerican origins, human dispersal, settlement, and cultural and biological development that occurred before 12,000 years ago. Education: The Center trains students who will go on to continue First Americans research. Outreach: The Center disseminates the results of academic research into the first Americans to the general public through our publications.
