6. Felix recuperates:   After being hit by a Dominoes pizza truck and undergoing two surgeries at the county hospital, Felix was released with a seven-day hotel voucher. He sold it for half a gram of heroin and returned to his old spot. Following the doctor’s orders to keep his leg elevated during his recovery, he used the beams of the underpass as traction. He needed to keep this secret, for fear of the Dominoes' attorneys discovering that he could, no matter how painful, climb the hill to get to this spot.

His mother lives just up the street, but he would not go there. "She knows I'm a dopefiend, but thinks I'm living in a hotel trying to get into a program. If she found out I was homeless, it would kill her. I love my mother more than anyone in this world. I wouldn't ever want to hurt her."
